What a holiday weekend….it was wicked good!

Hmmm….ok Friday started off with a banjo/mandolin jam session on our little patch of grass in the front yard while sippin’ on some beahs…later it found us with our fabulous friends Meg and Caleb (not pictured here), it was a great night of sushi, drinks and just plain ol’ good company.

Saturday was da day o’ long bike ride to the light houses. We fixed up one of my old bikes for Dennis to start riding…because ..what good is a bike unless someone is riding it??? My Peugeot was begging to be ridin’ rode rided on (my good friend Laura GAVE to me for free in Iowa City…thankyouthankyou)! Runnin’ fast and smooth…yall.

These were from our jaunt to the coffee shop today…but wanted to show you da bike!~~

We rode probably about 10 miles or so on a flippin’ slippin’ rippin’ route round the houses of light….Spring Light, The Bug Light, and the Portland Head Light.

In between lighthouses on our ride…

Sunday Mr. Jones had to work, so I got some things accomplished around the house…hmmm…then Monday….I spent almost the whole day in the walk in clinic for severe pain in my right wrist…I see another doc tomorrow to see if there is a fracture…yes that’s a splint…

Last night mojitos! and a dumpster a divin’ with roomies!!! We have acquired many important household items from generous folks who leave goodies on the sidewalk…our couch…the cigar chair…many old bikes….and now…a smoker!!!!! Yes everyone WAS dumpster divin’.

Thoughts on a Thursday…

May 24, 2007

Just got done with a very inspirational, yet exhausting day! I spent the morning doing a preceptorship at a Healthcare for the Homeless in Portland. It was awesome…I met some very inspiring practitioners there and only hope to carry on their enthusiasm to my own patients someday. I’m thinking about maybe volunteering there in the summer…I’ve realized that it really gets me down to not be around patients and it is such a Catch 22 because we just don’t have time in medical school.

Then I hurried off to our Beach Street Clinic where we saw 8 “fake” patients (have you ever seen the episode of Seinfeld where Kramer wants cirrhosis of the liver? Yeah…it’s like that.). OH MY WORD. We had 14 minutes for the patient visit…which included a complete history, a focused exam, diagnosis decisions and then a plan of action. We then were hurried to computers where we had to type their patient note (which was timed for 13 minutes) and then it was off to the next and this continued for 4 hours. Doctors work hard!!! You always wonder what they are doing when you are waiting in your patient room in a gown for 15 minutes…but next time, give them the benefit of the doubt. It is incredibly hard work, and demanding…yes some doc’s are disappointing and not the best (just as any profession) but don’t lump us all together…some of us mean really, really well :)

Then a chat with Heather…and it was off for a GREAT run! I don’t know if it was the view of the beautiful Portland harbor at sunset, the smell of the spring trees blossoming, the blood pumping through my body, or just being outside…but it was WONDERFUL!

Finally, off to meet Dennis for some dinner, a great salmon salad from Whole Foods.

No complaints today! Much love!

One fine day off

May 21, 2007

I finally had a full day off yesterday and it was grand! We took the ferry over to Peaks Island which is across Casco bay and about a fifteen minute sail. it was a grey day, but it has been for some time now. However, it was perfect. Once there we rented some bikes and explored this seemingly sleepy little island for a couple of hours. Gretchen’s dad came with us and I’m sure had a fun time watching us try to ride a tandem bicycle. We did do better than I thought we would I must admit. that little notch of land is a beautiful place. It has forest, cliffs and beaches. Also a great view of Casco bay and Portland. Here is a picture of Portland from the island.
Casco bay from Peaks island
We went around about half of the island loop from the bay to the ocean side of Peaks.

On the seaward side there were pretty big waves crashing on the rocks and making a thunderous noise.

It’s amazing how dramatically things change out here on the ocean, for on the other side toward the bay it was a perfectly calm quiet day!
After our exploration we went to see Somatic Dysfunction play at Bubba’s sulky lounge in Portland, that was a fun show… especially cause of the retro light up dance floor. Got to see some friends and dance to some killer tunes. A buddy of ours, Jeff, is going ice climbing in Bolivia next week so good luck amigo and don’t worry I’ll keep the blog suspense rolling. Stay tuned kids pretty soon I’ll be posting some absolutely amazing stuff! So keep your eyes peeled… but make sure to blink every once in a while!
All in all it was a great day off.

Telluride

May 16, 2007

Trying to keep my eyes on the prize…which in the short term is a trip to Telluride. Dennis and I are supposed to leave the day after my boards…June 20th. My first set of boards 1 out of 3 is on June 19th and will be about 9 hours long. It is over the last 2 years of school. The first year alone we all took 53 credits (yes in one academic year) of the most detailed sciences. Our second year was building on all of that science…assuming that we all learned it inside and out the first year. Plus what goes wrong with each system on top of that, including tests to be ordered, xrays, etc. all the diseases known to man….tons of work.

So…I have one month…one month to study and pass….whew, stressed…yes. Can I do it? I know I can. It will be worth it to spend each day inside for the next 4 weeks studying so I can enjoy my days in Telluride watching Allison Krauss, Chris Thile, The Stringdusters, etc… in the mountains, in the sunshine.

It’s not just coincidence that TELLURIDE is the name of our blog…it is where Dennis and I met one year ago. It is a place that will always be dear to my heart for numerous reasons.

Each day will take us to our own Telluride….a place where our soul soaks up the sunshine, our laughter gets tangled in the tall pines and music drifts into the valley below….for this is life and love.

~~~~Much peace on this Wednesday….G.~~~
Bike to Work Week!
May 14, 2007
Don’t forget it’s bike to work week! Pull your bike out of the garage and do it!!! Check out your local event calender…I know for sure Flagstaff AZ has a GREAT organized, FUN week!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Also remember that MAY 15th (tomorrow) is BUY NO GAS DAY!!!!! In 1997 there was a buy no gas day to protest the high prices and they came down 30 cents that night… think about it! If everyone spends $30-50 to fill up and all of us didn’t buy gas tomorrow…that’s billions!!! Let’s do it! Also check out www.grassolean.com to find out more about biodeisel…lets get away from oil!!!!
~~~~~MUCH LOVE AND PEACE~~~~~

Some type of important information… about, umm… somethin’

May 14, 2007

So, as it were I finally have my own computer!!! horray! and thanks mom. I am now more accsessable and will finally start checking my e mail more than once a year so that will be the best way to reach me. However please make it obvious that you are a friend, cause I get a ton of crap mail and I usually delete 99% of the stuff I get.
On top of that I got another job! I’m working at a place doing digital imaging work in Portland and so far it’s pretty cool! I guess all that stuff I learned in college actually might pay off. The place also prints paint on canvas of pictures, so they literally make paintings of pictures.
I’m excited to start getting some of my art off the ground; that is going to be the major focus of my summer so keep your eyes peeled for that too. The site I’m going to make into my offical art site is www.jonesart.wordpress.com so keep that in mind.
To start off I made another panorama of a place called Biddeford Pool it’s about 10min. from the place we used to live in Saco and it’s a cool place; really rich ass people have summer houses there… it’s so eternal sunshine in the winter time! It’s also about 2min. from Gretch’s campus.
Biddeford Pool
Anyways that’s what I’ve been up to the past week or so. There will be more pics of where we’re livin’ as soon as I can post em’ but panoramas are slightly labor intensive.
